Kylämäki Village in Kurala is made up of four farms with buildings still standing at their original sites. The village has been inhabited since the 7th century. Nowadays, Kurala is a village of living history where visitors can travel back in time to a typical Southwest Finnish farm of the 1950s, complete with authentic scents and rural atmosphere. In the summer months, you can see women at their domestic chores in the Iso-Kohmo House, making juices and jams, or dairy treats traditionally prepared around Midsummer. Visitors also get to participate in some of the farm's tasks, such as hay making. The Kylämäki Village also houses a Hands-on Workshop that offers different types of courses and hands-on experiences. Participants get to make 1950s-style items out of clay, paper, yarn or fabric. You can also try your hand at tablet weaving with plant-dyed yarns or make leather belts and pouches. At the Archaeological Experimentation Workshop children can explore prehistoric working methods and test their hunting skills using ancient weaponry. Kylämäki Workshop is open all year round.
