Luosto

Pyhä-luosto, Finland

The Luosto tourist area is a 90-minute drive from Rovaniemi. Luosto is known for its unique log cabin surroundings and beautiful landscapes as well as the Aurora Borealis.

If your holiday plans for the summer, or for the autumn foliage season are still open, here are a few good reasons to come to Luosto!

Pyhä-Luosto National Park

The Pyhä-Luosto National Park is known particularly for its range of fells 35 kilometres in length, and comprising 12 summits. It is a relic of one of the oldest mountain ranges on earth. The park offers good possibilities for day trips or small hikes in all seasons. You can start getting acquainted with the national park at the information point in the lobby of Lapland Hotel Luostotunturi, or at the Pyhä-Luosto Visitor and Culture Centre Naava.

Lampivaara amethyst mine

The only operating amethyst mine in Europe is located in the immediate vicinity of the Luosto Fell Centre. The Lampivaara Amethyst Mine is probably one of the only gemstone mines in the world where visitors are welcome. In the mine on the slopes of the fell you will be guided to the fascinating world of stones. You will hear stories that have been passed on over thousands of years, and you will get the chance to dig out your own lucky amethyst.

Lapland Hotel Luostotunturin Amethyst spa

It is always warm in the Amethyst Spa, no matter what the weather.  The gentle waves of grouse-shaped multi-purpose pool, and the various massage points and the jacuzzi in the amethyst cave bring the heat of the tropics to the area. The sauna section has both a Finnish sauna and a Turkish bath.
