The permanent exhibition of Aboa Vetus tells what medieval life was like in the Convent Quarter of Turku. The museum premises consist of the ruins of stone houses, which have been excavated and exposed by archaeologists. The two floors of Ars Nova display temporary exhibitions of contemporary art as well as presenting the museum's art collection. Every other year the museum organises the popular Turku Biennial - an event showcasing contemporary art. In the museum's Takkahuone gallery visitors can see solo exhibitions from interesting contemporary artists whilst the Omatila gallery presents projects and implements exhibitions in cooperation with the public. Become familiar with the themes of the exhibitions with the help of a skilled guide or as part of a special group programme. There are also guided public and themed tours as well as children's adventure tours available throughout the year. In addition, workshops and other events related to the exhibitions are organised on a regular basis. Aboa Vetus & Ars Nova’s museum shop is the most extensive in Turku, offering everything from wonderful jewellery to toys, cards, books and other souvenirs. The museum's cosy cafe is also a great place to deviate for a cup of coffee or a spot of lunch.
