The National Romantic granite building of the Turku Art Museum was opened to the public in 1904 and is a monument in itself. Since the beginning the museum has presented important works by Finnish and international artist, focusing on Nordic art in particular. High-quality temporary exhibitions provide a glimpse into the visual arts field – from the classics to the latest contemporary art. Today the collection comprises about 7 000 works of art including self-portraits, Finnish surrealism as well as pop art. Well represented are also works from the 19th and 20th centuries, the era known as the Golden Age of Finnish art. The renewable collection exhibitions are on display in the bright and beautiful rooms on the upper floor of the museum.
